Rotating Coils

Rotating Coils

Whether it is because product is sometimes dispensing incorrectly or some slots have needed differently-sized coils which have just been installed, the positions of coils will sometimes need to be adjusted by you to ensure the machine is working as efficiently and effectively as possible to prevent issues during vending that can hurt business!

The good news is, while there are many models of machines, types of motors, and sizes of coils, adjusting each one is the same across the board.

First: Home the Coil

In order to adjust a coil to a new position, the coil's "home position" must first be confirmed. The home position is the position the machine recognizes as the start and end position for a rotation - where it will start and stop vending. If a coil is adjusted without being homed first, it may rotate less than a full rotation until it hits its home position, causing every vend after that to start from a completely different position than you just adjusted the coil to. To home a motor:

Test the Slot

Either make a purchase from the slot or perform a test vend using the machine's admin menu.

Successful Test

Ensure a product falls into the bin/elevator or pass your hand through the vend sensors while testing the slot.

Confirmation

Ensure the machine states gives a success notification and does not give any vend errors.

An unsuccessful test could result in a "kick" or an extra rotation of a slot to dislodge stuck product, which will cause the slot to not end in the desired "home" position. If the machine gives an error of any kind, try the test again until no error is given. An error could result in a slot not reaching its "home" position.

Second: Adjust the Coil

Once a coil has been homed, it can be adjusted. It is recommended that all product be removed from a coil before adjusting it, as product in a coil can make adjusting it difficult or even damage the product.

Grab the Coil

You will want to grab the coil towards the very end closest to you.

Pull the Coil

Pull the coil towards you. You can pull it hard, the motor is unlikely to break from normal force.

Rotate the Coil

There should be no resistance to rotating the coil. If there is, pull it towards you harder, it should rotate with no effort.

Let the Coil Go

Release the coil and let it fall back into position.

Last: Confirm the New Rotation

Once a coil is adjusted, it will start and stop vends at this new home position. To make sure this is the case, test the slot, either by purchasing from it like a customer would or by performing a test vend using the machine's back-end menus. A correctly running slot will make one full rotation and vend one and only one product per slot rotation.
